Last Night

I had one of those nights. Ya know... nothing goes right and I have no one to blame, so I get mad at the Army for taking my husband from our family for a year and leaving us to fight silly battles without him. He fixes things, he's our rock... our hero. As we sat in the parking lot with the car not able to turn on I got more and more frustrated. I couldn't find a number to find out if I had roadside assistance from our insurance company, our AAA Membership had lapsed, and I was worried about how I was going to get these poor little kids home before it was really dark. Finally, after a good hour, a good samaritan came and asked if I needed a jump. Of course I "jumped" at the chance for a life line and as his wife and 3 kids looked on I was so elated that he helped me out. After it worked and the car started and I thanked his wife for letting him rescue us, I told his kids that he was a hero. The word is over used in a super-hero sense, but I do believe we are all heros in some way. I'm tired of running this house, doing everything by myself, not getting a break. I'm lonely and I miss my husband. This photo is a reflection of how I'm feeling lately. Don't forget everyday heros. Someone you rescue from a dead car battery may have so much more going on than just that little pain. Thank you good samaritan. You made me believe that there are good people out there willing to help. Thank you Army for making me a strong woman even though I want to curl up and cry sometimes.

{Sorry for the rant.}

  3. Girl, I don't know how you do it...b/c I surely could not. My husband is a fireman and also worked 2 additional jobs on his days off. I used to cry night after night b/c I was so worn out and lonely. After nearly 9 yrs of living that way he received a promotion which included an entirely new schedule...a "normal" schedule. He's home every night and no longer works his extra jobs (although money is still very tight). I don't know what to do with him home every evening. It's a dream. I say all this just to say that you have one of the most difficult jobs out there. You are a mother who doesn't get a break. You work day in and day out and your support system is gone months on end. I am in awe of your strength to make it through each day. The sacrifice you and other military families make is incredible and I thank you for it. I will be praying that God provides you with the strength and perseverance to make it through these long months. You are amazing!

  4. Found you through b&w Wednesday. Beautiful photo! However sad and lonely you are, know that you are not alone! I'm sure it's hard to be without your husband as he serves our country. You sound like a strong woman, able to go on for the time he's gone. Praying for peace and strength for you. I have four children, and can't imagine doing it alone for an extended amount of time. I'd definitely be praying a lot! This was a great reminder to always look for those little opportunities to help others. As you so eloquently wrote, you may be helping them with a lot more than just the little thing you can see.

  14. Very touching post. The good samaritan, your husband, you, and your children are all heroes in my book! Thanks to you all!

    While I don't always agree with the decisions our government makes, I ALWAYS DO APPRECIATE each and every soldier who puts his/her life on the line to protect my freedom. I don't think anyone truly understands all the sacrifices they make. Your husband is a hero!

    And, I can't even begin to imagine what the families of soldiers go through each and every day, living without them and struggling with the worry while they're gone. Continuing to be supportive and love them when it seems so unfair that they have to be gone, and taking great measures to share everyday life with them from 1000s of miles away. You and your children are heroes!

    God Bless you all!! And, thank you!
